Sharing is good: creating OneNote pages with others

In a meeting recently, I found that you can share OneNote notebook pages with others to create a collaborate OneNote page. When you share, several people can be on the same page at the same time. I also use IM during a session, which allows me to prompt others to take over or chime in on a point, helpful when you’re tag-teaming a presentation during a meeting or LiveMeeting session. I haven’t done this outside the office, but will try it next week during a meeting as I connect with remote users (using a strong password, of course).

In addition to the Introducing OneNote page, I find Crabby’s introduction to OneNote to be a refreshing reminder of the power in this app.

  1. On the File menu, click Share with Others.
  2. In the Share with Others task pane, click Join a Session or Start a Session.

Home means Phishing for the Holidays

I noted previously the Security & Privacy concerns around Phishing and I turned a friend in the Valley today on to our Security at home site. It has info on avoiding online scams with the Microsoft Phishing Filter, anti-virus, anti-spyware, security updates, Office and Windows update tools… well worth your time. I enjoyed the 10 tips for online auction bidders.

And when you read the articles, you may notice a question at the end of many of the articles on Microsoft.com:

Was this information useful?

     Yes   No

Clicking on a button will link you to a Feedback pop-up. Take the time to tell us what you thought of the article: was it helpful, did it address your question, was it off base, too technical, not geeky enough – that way we can improve upon our content.

We really do take your feedback and act on it: more on that after I get through the weekend and reviews next week.

Xbox 360 on call… service centre info

As a friend just found with some issues Xbox 360 Live account activation, a reminder that Xbox Customer Support can be reached on-line at http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/migrationcentral.htm.

And if you run into a hardware problem, call 1-800-4myXbox or go to http://www.xbox.com. If the problems can’t be immediately resolved, you’ll get detais on how to ship the console overnight to a repair center, and Microsoft will ship it back once it’s fixed or ship a replacement.

4RL? LOL, it’s Encarta via MSN Messenger

ELIZA has met her match. I received an email today with details on how to use MSN Messenger to query Encarta. This is a very cool feature. I’ve even heard that it will solve simple mathematical questions. You add encarta@conversagent.com to your MSN IM contacts list, then send an IM with questions for real-time answers, such as…

Encarta® Instant Answers says: Welcome, M3! My name is Encarta Instant Answers. I am a smart computer who can bring you the Encarta info you want right in your IM window! Type your question and I’ll look it up for you!

M3 says: OK… When is Thanksgiving in Canada?

Encarta® Instant Answers says: Thanksgiving in Canada dates: Second Monday in October.

Very nice. It even provides an opportunity to open an Encarta window for more colour commentary…

Encarta® Instant Answers is inviting you to start Encarta. Do you want to accept (Alt+C) or decline (Alt+D) the invitation?

HCIT? 😉
