Latest info on the new updates for Windows Mobile Devices, which replace the previously released updates at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/daylightsaving.

If you have been using the previously released updates, you may still continue to use it for Windows Mobile 2003 devices and Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphones. This newer patch is required for Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC based devices, and recommend for all other Windows Mobile devices as well and fixes the following issues:

1.  On Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC (including Phone edition) devices, it fixes an issue where if the visiting time zone was in DST, the home time zone would be overwritten during the transition.
2.  Makes the installation of the patch easy for all versions by automating the manual steps the previous patch required.
3.  Provides a combined cab file for Windows Mobile 5.0 easing users need to figure out whether they have a Pocket PC or Smartphone device

Download links for the updates: The patches are now live at the download center, and the end user website at MS.com will be refreshed by Monday morning. Until then, you can use the links provided below.

1.       Download cab file to the device
2.       Execute the cab files.
3.       If any storage cards are present, the user may be asked to select the installation location. The user needs to select “device” as the installation location.
4.       During the installation, the device will automatically restart to complete the installation.

On Windows Mobile 2003 devices using the cab files:

1. Download cab file to the device
       i. PPC PE devices should download the unsigned cab files

2. Execute the cab files.
3. If any storage cards are present, the user may be asked to select the installation location. The user needs to select “device” as the installation location.
4. After installation there will be no restarts.

Using the desktop installer:

1. Please ensure that the device is connected via the latest version of ActiveSync to the PC
       i. If the device is not connected the installation will not occur properly
2. Download and run the setup.msi file
3. The installer will install the appropriate patch on the device
4. If any storage cards are present, the user may be asked to select the installation location.
The user needs to select “device” as the installation location.
5. After installation
      i. Windows Mobile 5.0 devices will automatically restart
ii. Windows Mobile 2003 devices will not restart

Notes:

1. If there is an error dialog displayed with the following text: “Error processing timezone, please manually set the timezone” after restart on Windows Mobile 5.0, the user should complete the installation by a soft reset of the device.

2. If the device locks up for any reason after the installation of the patch, the user should perform a soft reset.

Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool with New Hotfix Patch Available for DST

Microsoft Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool and New Patch

Please find attached the documentation for the released Patch for the Microsoft Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool.  (The existing tool is available on the Download Center).

Scenarios Addressed by the Patch for the Microsoft Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool:

This is a summary of five different scenarios captured in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 933146 that you may encounter as you update your Exchange organization with the Daylight Saving Time (DST) 2007 updates, and how you can address these scenarios using the patch for the Microsoft Outlook Time Zone Data Update tool.  The patch includes additional command-line parameters that have been added to the Outlook Time Zone Data Update tool specifically to address these five scenarios:

1)      Ensuring that single instance items created after the date on which the operating system time zone updates were applied are not rebased.

2)      Rebasing calendar items and suppressing calendar updates.

3)      Rebasing resource mailboxes.

4)      Rebasing calendars items stored in public folders.

5)      Reporting the changes made by the Outlook Time Zone Data Update tool.

For more details please see these Microsoft Knowledge Base Articles:

·         KB article 931667How to address the daylight saving time changes in 2007 by using the Time Zone Data Update Tool for Microsoft Office Outlook

·         KB article 933146Description of the hotfix package for the Time Zone Data Update tool for Microsoft Office Outlook

This currently encompasses the released offerings from Outlook Team prior to the Daylight Saving switch on March 11th.  Please review these scenarios carefully and pay close attention to the issues outlined for each of the scenarios that are addressed in this Patch.  Each of these must be considered very carefully keeping in mind your environment. While we evaluate every issue on an individual customer basis, the hard time constraint of the March 11th change for Daylight Saving Time means that there will be no further updates to the Outlook tool before the time change occurs.  New issues will still be evaluated and included for future needs.

Info on the hotfix package for the Outlook tool for daylight saving time

I’m posting some information courtesy of our Outlook team as we just released the hotfix package for the Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool. For more details please refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933146.

Steps to reporting the changes that will be made by the Outlook Time Zone Data Update tool.

You can see what modifications will be made by the Outlook Time Zone Data Update tool by using the /REPORTINGMODE option. This option creates a log that can be used for planning purposes. /REPORTINGMODE does not perform any modifications, and instead it logs the items that would be modified if the tool were not run in Reporting Mode to the Application event log.

Steps to prevent rebasing of SINGLE instance items created after the date on which the operating system time zone updates were applied.

tzmove.exe /ONLYCREATEDPREPATCH or /ONLYCREATEDPREPATCH:<UTC date/time>

Steps to rebasing calendar items and suppressing calendar updates.

tzmove.exe  /FORCEREBASESUPPRESSALLUPDATES (referred to as SuppressAll in this document)

This option is used to rebase all single instance items (if no time zone property exists), and any recurring items that were creating using the 2006 DST rules, regardless of the organizer.

This mode will not send any updates for any reason.   When the organizer’s calendar is rebased, the meeting is shifted by 1 hour.  If the rebasing is performed using either the SuppressAll or SuppressExchange command-line parameters, then no updates will be sent to the recipient in the non-observing time zones. As a result, those attendees’ calendars will be an hour off and they will be an hour late for the meeting.

Steps for rebasing resource mailboxes using the auto accept agent (AAA)

Make sure AAA is up and running on server

Patch the Client OS

Run the /FORCEREBASESUPPRESSALLUPDATES mode outlook dst tool ( tzmove) against all resource mailboxes with AAA enabled from a  client.

It’s important to make sure AAA is running during this process – this is the key for the end users to get the acceptance mail for the updated meetings they organized.

Run the tzmove in normal mode against all the other mailboxes, including the ones organized meeting with the resource mailboxes

Steps for DirectBooking

For DirectBooking Run the tzmove with / FORCEREBASESUPPRESSALLUPDATES against resource mailboxes. – at this step, the meetings are moved to the right time slots.

Run the tzmove in normal mode against all other mailboxes. – meetings might become tentative on the resource mailbox if someone use outlook logon to the resource mailbox after the rebase.

Steps for rebasing calendars items stored in public folders.

tzmove.exe -QUIET \\Public Folders\All Public Folders\Folder1\Sub Folder\Calendar

tzmove.exe -Q –ONLYRECURRING \\Public Folders\All Public Folders\ProjectZ\Meetings\\Notes\Calendar

In the second example above, a public folder called Meetings\Notes contains the public folder calendar. Because this public folder name includes a backslash (\), the path representing the folder contains a double backslash (\\).

You can also rebase calendar items stored in additional calendars that may exist in a user’s mailbox. An example command for rebasing those items is:

tzmove.exe -Q \\Mailbox – User\Second Calendar
